Diary and pictures of my trip to Akaslompolo, Finland. Was very cool indeed. and cold, but not as cold as expected. I (Oliver aka Oli, from Zurich, Switzerland) did the trip together with my father-in-law (Max) and my brother-in-lawi (Roland aka Roli). I was under surveillance ;-). Not that this was really necessary of course. ;-)

day 0, 24.2.2007: arrival at kittila airport at 22:00. small dinner, afterwards beers at the Yllas Humina Pub, including loads of finnish karaoke singers.

day 1, 25.2.2007

Our first expedition went up to Kotamaja. Roli and I almost collapsed. 16km was too much for us.

Evening: Beers at the Yllas Humina Pub, including loads of finnish karaoke singers.

day 2, 26.2.2007

Hungover, already. Too many Lapin Kulta. Took the skis nevertheless and went to karhukota.

day 3, 27.2.2007

Trip to Latvamaja in sunshine. wonderful, fantastic.

Evening: Beers at the Yllas Humina Pub, including loads of finnish karaoke singers... and then some dance lessons by 2 finnish women from tampere. It evolved to be a funny night out, including a visit to the akashotelli, some girlie-band had a concert there. I think the band's name was "indica", the concert was quite okay actually.

day 4

hungover again. this time really bad. didn't get enough sleep. we stayed home and went shopping a bit. no beers for me tonight. well, only a few.

day 5

another trip to kotamaja. weather was lousy, but we nevertheless risked to climb up that hill (kukeli). have a look at the pictures, they are amazing. it was like being on another planet. it is difficult to tell the background from the foreground on the pictures sometimes.

day 6

skiing! Yes! we did it! wanted to show the finns how this works, but eventually found out that they are pretty good as well ;-). kalle palander has a few colleagues in Ylläs to challenge him.

day 7

flight back home. really frustrating was the suddenly very good weather. Now that would have become another great day on the cross-country skiing tracks. But we had to go back to good ole' Zurich and find out how our regular stressed life is - compared to the easy-going life in lapland. We will come back again!!
